Rare DHC Chipmunk returns to the air

The UK's sole remaining single-seat de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk Mk.23, G-AOTF, has recently flown again after a five-year hiatus. The 1950s trainer was acquired by Richard Ellingworth in 2019 and has undergone considerable work while in his hands. Delivered to the RAF on February 17,1950, it was struck off charge just six years later. Passing through several owners, the aircraft was converted to a single-seat agricultural aircraft in 1963. Formerly a resident at Spanhoe, Northamptonshire, Richard plans to base the Chipmunk - affectionately known as 'Bumblebee' owing to its yellow and black colours - at Saltby in Lincolnshire.
