Santos breaks records - but remains in the doldrums

Thanks to an upsurge in bulk cargoes like sugar and soya beans, the port of Santos looks set to break its own record this year and handle 47M tonnes of cargo, 4M tonnes more than in 2000: Promising though this outlook seems, however, Fernando Viana, president of Santos' port authority, Codesp, told Fairplay that the port had enormous short term-problems.
