There are signs of a pick-up in the small container ship charter market, but they are weak and might be short-lived. The chance of a rebound in demand for sub-1,000teu types in advance of Chinese New Year is considered to be slim; instead brokers have anticipated a further build-up of unemployed tonnage.rnEven so, daily hire rates seem to have stabilised at sub-operating expense levels of $3,000-4,000/day. Only two or three small feeder ships are reported to have been fixed or extended in the Asia-Pacific region last week, including the geared 910teu Mun-ster at $4,000/day for 6+6 months by CMA CGM group subsidiary ANL Container Line.
