Eco-designs pay off for Hyundai Mipo

During the last recession in 2009, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) decided to research and develop eco-designs when shipowners refrained from newbuilding orders. The mid-sized yard is now enjoying paybacks from that venture, having secured 70％ of its 2013 new-order target of$3.2Bn. HMD general manager Choi Hyun-kyu told Fairplay: "Because of the recession in 2009, we felt shipowners would be particular about bunker consumption and they are still very much concerned with fuel usage today."
