A partnership linking Liverpool's John Moores University with Mersey Maritime, which promotes Liverpool's shipping sector, aims to bridge a skills gap that could hinder business growth in northwest England. Small and medium-sized companies will have access to the university's research and development laboratories and testing facilities to help them compete on a global scale. "Helping to create strong alliances with maritime businesses, training centres, and universities across the UK is key to furthering the cause of our industry," said Chris Shirling-Rooke, Mersey Maritime's acting chief executive.
