Parliamentary data retention committee to examine protecting journalists’ sources

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS), which recently reported to Parliament on the Government’s proposed data retention laws, will now issue a separate report on “how to deal with the authorisation of a disclosure or use of telecommunications data for the purpose of determining the identity of a journalist's source”.
