Resource Efficiency: Competitiveness, sustainable growth and jobs take priority

The road map to a resource-efficient Europe, presented by the European Commission on 20 September 2011 (COM(2011)571) is a key element of the 'Europe 2020' strategy that will put the EU on track to a sustainable econ omy. That was the conclusion of the EU's economy and finance ministers, on 21 February1. The 27 nevertheless cau tion that actions taken in this context "must be consistent with the need for economic stability and fiscal consolida tion and be economically efficient and cost-effective".
