ENERGY MODELLING: A QUEST FOR A MORE OPEN AND TRANSPARENT APPROACH

We conclude that openness in energy system modelling nearly reached the mainstream but still needs some effort to convince first generation modellers as the new European Commission strategic long-term vision shows exempla-rily. While second generation modelling opens all the black boxes, we are already heading in the direction of third generation modelling which also comprises exchange and collaboration between the modelling institutes as well as a policy and data interface to improve the exchange and collaboration with non-modelling stakeholders (see Figure 2).
