2014 Climate Summit - Cities and District Energy at the Forefront

More than 120 heads of state and government, together with finance, business, civil society and local leaders from public and private sectors took part in the Climate Summit and related events hosted in New York on 23 September. Its goal was to raise political will and mobilise action towards a meaningful global agreement in 2015. In the framework of the UN global initiative »Sustain-able Energy for All« (SE4AII), the Global Energy Efficiency Accelerator Platform was established aiming among others to double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency. With cities accounting for over 70% of global energy use and half of their energy consumption going for heating and cooling, it was widely acknowledged that any solution for the climate and energy transition must explicitly address sustainable urban heating and cooling.
