They're calling it LTE, which stands for Long Term Evolution. But for many within the telecommunications industry, the changes that are being embodied with the new fourth generation, or 4G, mobile phones look more like revolution than evolution. And as in many revolutions, there's rather a lot of incidental turmoil and confusion. The turmoil, says Jean-Louis Evans, managing director of TUEV Sued Product Service and global business unit leader for TUEV Sued's wireless and telecoms operations, is down to the speed of change. "If you go back 10 years we all had our Nokia black-and-white screen phones and we were just about sending text messages in addition to voice phone calls," he says.
