A traffic jam information providing apparatus comprises a communication control part (401) that controls the communication with a traffic jam information management center via a network; a positioning part (402) that positions the local vehicle; a map information acquiring part (403) that acquires information of map related to the neighborhood of the position of the local vehicle determined by the positioning part (402); a traffic jam information acquiring part (404) that acquires, from the traffic jam information management center, a plot data representing information of traffic jam in the neighborhood of the position of the local vehicle determined by the positioning part (402); a display part (411) that displays various kinds of information; and a control part (406) that controls the whole apparatus. In particular, the control part (406) causes the display part (411) to display the map information acquired by the map information acquiring part (403) and further to display, on the displayed map information, the plot data acquired by the traffic jam information acquiring part (404).
