MEPs back huge rise in EU share of TENs project funding

The European Parliament has approved a proposal that would see the EU's share in funding for priority projects under the trans-European energy and transport networks (TENs) rise dramatically. In Strasbourg plenary on 26 October Parliament adopted a report and opinion from Mario Mauro (Italy - European People's Party) on a proposed regulation determining the general rules for the granting of Community financial aid in the field of the trans-European transport and energy networks. The regulation will lay down financial rules for TENs-T (transport - road, rail and waterways) and TENs-E (energy) networks that allow the EU to co-finance with member states the costs of major cross-border infrastructure projects.
