MEPs seek tighter EU organic rules

MEPs are calling for tighter EU rules on the organic production and labelling of organic products, demanding firmer guarantees on the permitted level of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and tougher inspections for producers and importers. Their demand came at the same time as UK environment minister David Miliband called for a food ecolabel (see story this issue).
