BfR demands PAH reduction in consumer products and food

The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is calling for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to be reduced as much as possible in consumer products.rnPAHs are complex mixtures of organic compounds that are often found as environmental pollutants, with people mainly being exposed through food and breathing contaminated air. PAHs are formed during incomplete combustion processes from coal, fuel or tobacco and during grilling. Some of the more than 100 individual PAHs are also natural components of crude oil. The reference compound is benzo[a]pyrene (BaP).
