The public has the right to know the location of fields planted with genetically modified (GM) crops, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled. The Court ruled on 17 February that the exact location of fields in the European Union where GM crops are grown must be disclosed to the public on request. Sites of GM cultivation can "in no case be kept confidential," the Court said, under EU transparency rules on releasing GMs into the environment - since GMs could pose a risk to the environment and human health.
