ACR+ head calls for incineration ban and raw materials tax

An effective waste prevention policy needs a total EU-wide ban on incineration and an EU raw materials tax, according to the head of the Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and Sustainable Waste Management (ACR+). Speaking at the recent conference on the role of economic instruments for waste prevention, Jean-Pierre Hannequart said that what was needed was more national and EU "product policies", an EU-wide mandatory deposit system on small electrical appliances and more EU-wide common principles on the extended producer responsibility principle combined with specific reuse targets.
