Mexico to delay GM maize approval until next year

A Mexican government official has revealed that the country's approval of genetically modified (GM) maize on a commercial scale will be delayed until 2013. Mariano Ruiz, deputy agriculture secretary, told Reuters that the regulatory approval for the crops was likely to come under the administration of President-elect Enrique Pena Nieto, who assumes office in December. Ruiz said he did not expect the go-ahead until spring 2013.
