Majority of Europeans say chemicals safe, survey finds

Almost two-thirds of Europeans - some 61 per cent - say that chemicals on the EU market today are safer than ten years ago, according to the findings of a Eurobarometer survey on the public perception of chemicals published alongside the REACH review (see separate articles in this issue). The survey found people are nowadays generally well aware of the wide application of chemicals, 69 per cent consider chemicals unavoidable for their daily life, 65 per cent agree that products containing chemical substances have been tested properly in the EU and 75 per cent relate chemicals to industrial innovations.
