Investors Push Oil Companies, Insurers To Disclose Deepwater Risks, Management

A coalition of institutional investors and interest groups has sent letters to 27 oil and natural gas companies and 26 insurance companies to call for better disclosure of risks and risk management associated with deepwater drilling and production operations.rnCoordinated by Ceres, a coalition of investors, environmental organizations, and public interest groups that works with companies to address sustainability issues, the signers of the letters also probe the oil companies on investment in safer technologies.rnAmong the oil companies receiving letters were: Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Hess, Maersk, Marathon, Shell, Statoil, Suncor, and Woodside Energy Ltd. Insurance companies receiving letters included: AIG, Everest Re, Flagstone Reinsurance, Hanover Re, Lloyd's, Munich Re, Swiss Re, Travelers, W.R. Berkley, and XL Capital.
