Bachus Questions SEC Motives, Expertise In Guidance on Disclosure of Climate Risks

Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.), ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, Feb. 2 asked Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro to explain the agency's recent decision to issue interpretive guidance on climate change disclosures. In a letter to Schapiro, Bachus contended that the issue is beyond the agency's expertise and "has little to do with helping issuers or protecting the investing public."
