North American Commission Report Shows 3.5 Percent Increase in Pollutant Releases

OTTAWA-There was a 3.5 percent increase in combined releases and transfers of more than 500 toxic substances in 2006, compared to 2005, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) said in its 13th annual report on pollutant releases across North America. The April 12 report, Taking Stock: North American Pollutant Releases and Transfers, covers the 2006 reporting year, the most recent year for which release and transfer data on industrial pollutants were available from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
