45 Mayors Sign Pledge to Prepare Cities for Impacts of Climate Change

Forty-five mayors from around the United States pledged June 17 to take actions that will protect their communities from disasters and disruptions caused by climate change and urged the federal government to improve disaster preparedness communication and fund infrastructure upgrades. The mayors will participate in the Resilient Communities for America Agreement, a multi-year campaign to prepare communities for the effects of heat waves, floods, droughts, severe storms, and wildfires, among other extreme weather events. Cities will aim to reduce their carbon footprints, shift to renewable energy sources, improve energy efficiency, evaluate local vulnerabilities to extreme weather, and upgrade local infrastructure.
