EPA’s Plans to Scrutinize Two Plastics Chemicals Imminent

The EPA will unveil final details Tuesday on the risks it will examine from uses of, populations vulnerable to, and health conditions associated with two chemicals that soften plastics,according to two Federal Register notices.The Environmental Protection Agency announced Monday that will release its final risk evaluation plans, or “scopes,” for diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) and diisononyl phthalate (DINP), usedby the auto industry, among others. The outcome of the agency’s multi-year evaluations will determine whether either chemical poses unreasonable risks and therefore must have itsuses restricted in some way.
