The government has confirmed that it plans to introduce feed-in tariffs for small-scale renewable energy generators early next year. The Department for Energy and Climate Change is currently consulting on legislation regarding feed-in options, but confirmed that a scheme would be introduced to incentivise organisations and households installing less than 5MW renewable power. Last year's Energy Act promised to introduce feed-in tariffs for small generation from renewable sources, but comments from the then-Minister of State for Energy, Mike O'Brien suggested implementation would be delayed. "Moving too fast and getting it wrong will carry a price, and that price will be paid by consumers," he warned.rnBut the government now says it expects the law to be enforced in early 2010.
