Deconstruction, foundations, and the critique of American power

Let's face it: deconstruction has not had a good press. Conventional wisdom wants to align deconstructive thought with the brush of relativism, fascism, and racism. In the study of politics and international relations deconstruction has been subsumed for dismissal under the label 'postmodern' and treated hysterically, perhaps because of an acute sense (not misplaced) that it poses radical questions for the foundation of the nation-state.
