Feasibility study for freight upgrade

GHD is assisting WestNet in carrying out a feasibility study to upgrade the freight line between Morawa and Geraldton in the mid-west wheatbelt of Western Australia. An upgraded line would help serve the iron ore mines planned for the area. The study has come up with a shortlist of several options, ranging from upgrading the existing tracks to building a completely new line closely aligned to the old one. The feasibility study began in the middle of last year. The preliminary phase - including environmental and geotechnical work - has been completed. The second stage will include earthworks calculations, and topographical and hy-drological analyses.
