New degree in sports engineering

摘要

With the Olympics just finished and the Paralympics still under way in Beijing, I'd like to draw attention to sports engineering. My interest in this area is twofold. I am involved on an advisory committee developing a new degree for sports engineering and I am a life member of Wheelchair Sports in South Australia, which has had many paralympian medallists. This discipline is relatively new in the world engineering arena, but may increase quickly as more research and development is undertaken. My research on this topic has revealed interesting aspects. There is an International Sports Engineering Association (ISEA) which is currently acting as the main forum to discuss issues related to sports engineering. There have been a series of international conferences and an International Journal of Sports Engineering is regularly published.
