Insight into engineering world

Twenty-four girls from ten high schools around northern NSW have gained an insight into the engineer-ing world with a weekend event at the University of New England. Dr Janelle Wilkes, lecturer in environ-mental engineering at UNE said the inau-gural Women in Engineering weekend saw the girls engaged in surveying, building bridges, designing highway bypasses, making cars with safety equipment, and designing better pathways for people with mobility difficulties. The girls from Years 9-11 came from Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Gloucester, Grafton, Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Tam-worth and Taree for the weekend.
