Gold Coast Light Rail project

The Gold Coast Light Rail project is a 13km light rail corridor connecting Gold Coast University Hospital and Griffith University (Health and Knowledge precinct) to the fast growing commercial, retail and recreational centres of Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. The project includes an underground station servicing the Gold Coast University Hospital and Griffith University, an 800m-long bridge and viaduct structure, and five bridge structures. Australian innovation is being included in the industrial design elements of the Bombardier Flexity-2 tram, which were undertaken locally in Queensland. These elements include the internal fit-out - hand rails, flooring and seat fabrics. Bombardier's Milton office (Brisbane) is the company's Centre of Excellence for Industrial Design and produces tram and train designs for local and global supply opportunities. Some key features of the Flexity-2 Gold Coast Tram include a cab front designed specifically for the Gold Coast, the world's first tram with surfboard racks, the largest airconditioning in its class and the first delivery globally of the seven-module tram set.
