Govt responds to infrastructure report

The federal government has agreed to the Department of Industry publishing regular projections of labour demand for public infrastructure. This was included in an Australian Government Response in answer to the recommendations of the Productivity Commission Inquiry Report into Public Infrastructure tabled earlier this year. The wide ranging inquiry was a comprehensive investigation of the assessment, selection, finance and delivery of major economic infrastructure. The governments response cites poor project selection and a lack of planning as reasons for the country lacking the infrastructure it needs for the future. It states that the govern- ment will implement new arrangements under its Infrastructure Investment Programme to improve delivery and generate more private sector investment while ensuring value for the taxpayer.
