While visiting the Barangaroo site, the largest urban development currently underway in Sydney if not Australia, Engineers Australia magazine took the opportunity to ask civil engineer Barry Murphy some questions. Murphy, Lend Lease project director (engineering) is currently responsible for the delivery of the Headland Park section of the development, scheduled for completion mid-2015. He responded to questions on issues affecting engineers, including trends, hot skills and employability, as well as leadership. Q. What do you see as the key industry trends that successful engineers should be aware of? A. We have recently been through a period in civil engineering where relationship contracting models, such as alliancing, were favoured. During this period, clients and contractors have seen the benefits of closer collaboration and innovation across key result areas.
