The 40-acre Palomar Medical Center (PMC), designed to accommodate 360 patient beds, 12 operating rooms and a trauma center, displays myriad superlatives and innovations: one of two U.S. hospitals with natural daylight in operating rooms; exterior and interior gardens connecting patients directly to nature; environmental sustainability and efficiency; design decisions guided by evidence-based design; largest construction project in California at ground-breaking.
