Recent reports have highlighted the fact that British businesses in general and manufacturing dustry in particular continue to suffer from the lack of experienced and skilled staff. In a survey of 1000 employers, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) reported that a staggering four out of every five companies now had even more people on their payroll who lacked suitable skills or experience than before, expecting them to 'grow into the job'. An interesting concept if ever there was one. The worsening skills-shortfall has resulted in businesses recruiting increasing numbers of staff from outside the UK, emphasising the continuing need for migrant workers, according to the CIPD.
