Contemporary Problems in Technical Library and Information Center Management: A State-of-the-Art

The title of this book leads one to expect a comprehensive work, broadly based on all types of technical libraries and information centers. In reality, it is relatively narrow in scope. The publication results from a project sponsored by the Technical Information Support Activities Project of the Army Corps of Engineers, the objective of which was to "improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Department of Defense technical libraries, information centers and information analysis centers." The editor states that "each author was requested to present a clear description of the present state-of-the-art and to identify a number of problems amenable to short-range, applied research efforts calculated to lead to a maximum impact in terms of library and information center operations," with application of existing knowledge to be emphasized. He states further that "appropriate research strategies and methodologies were to be outlined for the solution of the structured research problems described."
