Acquisition and Collection Development of Foreign Scientific and Technical Serials in Japan - centering on the National Diet Library

The Institute of Library and Information Science of the National Diet Library (NDL) has surveyed the present location of scientific and technical materials and their acquisition system in Japan. The target libraries were the National Diet Library, the Japan Information Center of Science and Technology (JICST), and the Deposit Libraries of Foreign Journals. The survey on acquisition activities was conducted by interview and collecting materials. Acquisition policies, budget and selection systems are analysed, and the resource location survey, which compares the foreign periodicals databases of the three institutions with ISSN number, gives the state of their holdings.
