摘要

Operators in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) have been experiencingnstrong growth in non-voice revenues in recent years, particularlynas a result of increasing data connectivity revenues from smartphonenownership proliferation. A beneficial trend in this regard has been thenincreasing availability of lower cost mid-range smartphones, which hitnprice points that are more appropriate for the middle income countriesnthat populate the region. This lays the foundation for further data connectivitynrevenue growth in the future, particularly as 4G LTE servicesnbecome more widespread. However, it also increases the urgency withnwhich operators must pursue other non-voice revenues as the threat ofntraditional revenue erosion from IP substitution increases with smartphonenownership. BMI believes operators can exploit local specificsnin CEE, such as culture and language, as well as market characteristicsnsuch as the lower penetration of banking services relative to developednmarkets to develop new revenue growth opportunities.
