Ambient-light sensors raise bar on power consumption and dynamic range

Digital ambient-light sensors (ALS) control backlighting in LCD displays that are used in tablets, smart-phones, and TVs. Manufacturers today not only continue to strive for lower power with a wider dynamic range, but they are also trying to improve spectral response to closely match the human eye for accurate light measurements, especially when the top display glass is tinted or dark in color.
