Academia & Industry Must Collaborate in Optoelectronics Assembly

As the electronics industry picks up momentum to find ways to automate optoelectronics Level I, II and III assembly the question is, "Who has the moxie, research, engineering, capital and expertise to go it alone?" It's quite obvious at this point that very few organizations will take on this challenge. As more and more original equipment manufacturers offload their manufacturing facilities and overheads, it is apparent these individual companies will not invest the vast dollars necessary to automate the optoelectronics Level I, II and III assembly processes. One possible answer would be that the contract manufactures pick up the slack.
