While the kit they hold may have come a long way, the approach and view of what a server room should be has, in some instances, not really moved with the times. That old stationary cupboard or where the cleaner keeps their mop and bucket will never become an effective server room, even if you put servers in there. There is much, much more to consider. You really cannot power 100A worth of equipment from a standard socket or two. And crazy as it may sound, being able to open the window or having a couple of domestic fans really does not constitute a considered climate controlled environment. All these issues have to be addressed, but the reality is that regardless of the size of an operation, the same server room design principles apply.
