50-Mbps wireless LANs: not vet a done deal

Even though some other standards have received more publicity, IEEE 802.11B has achieved greater success than any other wireless-networking standard. According to WECA (Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance), the principal organization that backs it, approximately 150 products comply with 802.11b. WECA created Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity), the voluntary 802.11b-interoperability-certification program, and the organization wants everyone to think of Wi-Fi as synonymous with 802.11b. WECA asserts that, to succeed in the market, products that claim to support 802.11b must carry the Wi-Fi logo.
