Providing access to the highest quality training for apprentices and supporting students interested in careers in electrical construction are essential parts of NECA's mission to attract, develop, and retain the best talent. In the construction industry, the skills gap is a critical issue that must be addressed in order to ensure a skilled workforce for decades to come. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently finalized a regulation creating a new apprenticeship model, Industry Recognized Apprenticeship Programs (IRAPs). In its final determination, DOL decided to exempt the construction industry from participating in this new program.
