In mid 2011, an initial examination of the supply chain that produces the geospatial skilled workforce for Queensland was undertaken by Kevin Davies and myself. The initial industry concern was the longevity of the QUT (Queensland University of Technology) surveying/spatial course, because of low staff and enrolment numbers. As the work developed, the concerns broadened to include a shortage of skilled workers and the need for a whole-of-industry approach to geospatial workforce planning and development. The work was supported by QSIC (Queensland Spatial Information Council), with the cooperation of all professional and regulatory bodies and the various training and educational organi-sations. An industry cross-section group acted as a steering committee. A range of industry consultations and workshops were held.
