The role of mandates/philosophies in shaping interactions between disabled people and their support providers

Support provision is a personal and important element of daily life for many disabled people. This study examines the ways in which organisational mandates and philosophies shape interactions between disabled people and support providers at two unique organisations in Winnipeg, Canada: a L’Arche community for people with intellectual disabilities and an Independent Living Resource Centre. Data was collected through semi‐structured interviews with administrators at each location, disabled people using the services and support providers. The findings demonstrate that both organisations have strongly articulated philosophies that the participants are familiar with.
