The observed effects of distance learning on curriculum implementation in management and business studies

摘要

The following paper aims to evaluate the effects of prolonged distance learning on curriculum implementation (hereby understood as the efficient realisation of the course), as observed in business and management courses at the two major universities in Lodz, Poland. The results of empirical research conducted on a group of 15 management teachers and 90 students at the Lodz University of Technology and the University of Lodz are presented. The authors chose a qualitative interview technique (individual structured online interview) as well as classroom observations. It was found that scholars regard online learning as only a temporal solution designed for modern youth. Naturally, they are aware of the benefits such as savings (e.g., time, money), but when asked about their personal view, some have tried to speak in the name of their students. The subjects agreed that, in many ways, stationary education seems more student-centred, however, once the epidemic situation is over, some elements of distance learning might be managed more smartly with the use of ICT technology. Further, because the study focused on Polish universities, an international context of the scholarship has been provided.
