Grossaldehydeoxidaseactivityfromtheegg-stagethrough10-day-oldadultsanddistributionoftheenzymeineye-antennalimaginaldiscsinthirdinstarlarvaeweredeterminedforthetumorous-headstrainofDrosophilamelanogaster.Aldehydeoxidaseactivityofseverallaboratorystrainswasmeasuredforcomparativepurposes.Aldehydeoxidaseactivitywas100%higherduringembryogenesisintuh(ASU)eggsthaninOregon-R-Ceggs.Asecondperiodofelevatedaldehydeoxidaseactivitywasobservedduringmetamorphosiswheretuh(ASU)pupaeaveraged65%moreenzymeactivitythanOregon-R-C.Therefore,duringdeterminationanddifferentiationoftheeye-antennalimaginaldisc,thetuh(ASU)strainpossessesahighaldehydeoxidaseactivity.Wild-typeDrosophilamelanogasterantennalimaginaldiscsarealdehydeoxidasepositive,whereasattachedeyeimaginaldiscsareapparentlyaldehydeoxidasenegative.Asampleofeye-antennalimaginaldiscsfromtuh(ASU)thirdinstarlarvaerevealedthateitheroneorbotheyediscsof64%ofthelarvaewerealdehydeoxidasepositive.Aldehydeoxidaseactivitymaybecorrelatedwiththehomoeotictransformationinpartsoftheeyedisc.
