Event-related conceptual knowledge outside the language system rapidly affects verb-argumentprocessing in unimpaired adults (Kuperberg, 2007; McRae, et al., 2005). Verbs activate eventrepresentations in semantic memory, which in turn activate common event participants (McRae, etal., 2005). This knowledge facilitates prediction (Metusalem, et al, 2012) and integration of verbarguments (Rayner, et al., 2004). However, it remains controversial whether verb-argumentprocessing is reducible to the activation of event-related knowledge, or whether some aspects ofverb-argument processing are independent of such knowledge (Boland, 2005).
