Treatment for Naming in Semantic Variant of Primary Progressive Aphasia: Examining Effects of Teletherapy

Individuals with semantic variant of primary progressive aphasia (svPPA) present with a slowly progressivedeterioration of conceptual knowledge that results in impaired comprehension and production of language. Anomiais typically the first symptom and the most significant factor affecting activities of daily living. Because manyindividuals with svPPA do not live near rehabilitation facilities that offer specialized treatment for PPA, they oftendo not receive services addressing their communication needs. We aimed to explore the utility of naming treatmentin individuals with svPPA, comparing the results of treatment administered in-person by a clinician relative to thatdelivered via the internet. We predicted that individuals would be responsive to treatment for lexical retrieval andthat results would be comparable across treatment delivery methods.
