Language comprehension difficulties in aphasia have been attributed to underlying impairments in cognitive factors such asauditory processing or attention (Murray, 2002). Although it is widely accepted that cognitive factors play a role in languageperformance, questions still remain about whether training cognitive processes may improve language skills in people with aphasia(PWA). BrainFitness (BF) is a commercially available computer program, which was developed as a cognitive training tool fortypically aging adults according to the principles of neuroplasticity (i.e., the idea that the brain can change as a result of specificenvironmental input). Smith et al. (2009) found that completing the BF program improved auditory processing speed, attention, andmemory in typically aging adults. The current study examined the impact of completing THQBF program on standardized cognitiveand language assessments and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) measures in a person with aphasia.Method.
