FollowingourpreviousfindingthatsodiumseleniteinducesapoptosisinhumanleukemiaNB4cells,wenowshowthattheexpressionofthecriticalantioxidantenzymemanganesesuperoxidedismutase(MnSOD)isremarkablyelevatedduringthisprocess.Wefurtherrevealthatreactiveoxygenspecies(ROS),especiallysuperoxideradicals,playacrucialroleinselenite‐inducedMnSODupregulation,withextracellularregulatedkinase(ERK)andp53closelyimplicated.Specifically,ERK2translocatesintothenucleusdrivenbyROS,whereitdirectlyphosphorylatesp53,leadingtodissociationofp53fromitsinhibitoryproteinmousedoubleminute2(MDM2).Activep53directlymediatestheexpressionofMnSOD,servingasthelinkbetweenERK2translocationandMnSODupregulation...
