Hyaluronidase(HAase)activitywasdetectedintheculturesupernatantsofPenicilliumpurpurogenumandPenicilliumfuniculosum.TheHAasefromPenicilliumspp.(HAase‐P)wasahyaluronate4‐glycanohydrolase,whichcatalyzedtheendolytichydrolysisoftheβ‐1,4glycosidiclinkage,asdovertebrateHAases.ThegeneencodingHAase‐PwasclonedandexpressedinEscherichiacoli.Accordingtohomologyanalysesofthededucedaminoacidsequences,HAase‐PisnotclassifiedintoanyoftheknownHAasegroups,butbelongstoglycosidehydrolasefamily16,whichincludesendo‐β‐1,3(4)‐glucanase.Regardingthesubstratespecificities,nochondroitinaseandglucanaseactivitiesweredetected.Judgingfromhomologyanalysesandenzymaticproperties,HAase‐PseemstobeanewtypeofHAase...
